    TRAVEL ADVISORY
    Preparing for the trip

When going abroad, remember that you may find yourself in an unfamiliar environment – in a country with a different climate, different standards of behavior in public places, requirements for appearance, unusual food, and a special work schedule of organizations and institutions. Therefore, you should familiarize yourself in advance with the definite features of the state that you plan to visit. This will help you to prepare properly for the trip and take the necessary things with you.

Please check the documents before leaving (passport, visa, educational documents, tickets, insurance, etc.), make copies of them. The contact of the university representative is required too. The student should carry all documents including the invitation letter in the hand luggage.

    Required documents for the trip

Before leaving for the airport, you should check the availability of the following documents:

    • passport with an open visa
    • air tickets (save until the end of the trip)
    • medical insurance
    • invitation from the university
    • all educational documents (legalized by the Ukrainian embassy)
    Arrival at the airport

You should arrive at the airport for check-in for international flights no later than 3 hours before departure, for domestic flights – 1 hour before. We remind you that check-in ends 40 minutes before departure.

When packing your bags for the trip, please note that many things may be prohibited for air transportation, and there are special rules for hand luggage that you should specify in advance with the airline. Do not lose the coupons on the baggage you handed in, they will be needed in case of its loss.

    Arrival Rules

When passing through passport control, one should calmly and politely answer all the questions asked by the officer (know the purpose of his/her trip). When passing through passport control, you should have a passport, an invitation from an educational institution, medical insurance and return tickets; a passport control officer will request these documents.

    The medicine

We recommend taking with you a minimum set of medicines, those that you have already taken and you have no contraindications or allergies to these drugs (do not take new and unfamiliar medicines with you). Take with you antipyretic drugs, remedies for a sore throat, runny nose, painkillers, antihistamines, medicines for nausea and abdominal pain, antiseptics, cotton, bandage.

    Rules of behaviour abroad

Follow all the rules of behaviour established by the university and the rules of living in the country. If you have any problems, please contact your supervisor or a university employee, or contact the international mobility group of the international faculty.

In case of unintentional or intentional violation of the rules of stay abroad by students, loss or theft of documents, their detention by local authorities, the student immediately should inform the group of academic mobility of the international faculty.

    If you lost your passport

In case of passport loss, you must immediately contact your diplomatic mission or consular office in the host country to obtain a certificate of entry (return).

If the overseas office is far from your location, we recommend that you first contact its employees by phone and get additional instructions regarding the required documents.

If there is a theft or an attack against you, first of all, you need to report the incident to the police for the investigation and possible disclosure of the crime without delay. It is necessary to draw up a report, in the case of theft – with the list of missing items and their approximate cost. It is also recommended to report the incident to your supervisor or to an employee of the educational institution.

If you are detained or arrested, do not resist, as this may aggravate the situation and provoke police to use physical force or even weapons. It is not recommended to communicate with the police officers, as well as to sign any protocols and other documents in a foreign language in the absence of an interpreter or a lawyer since such statements according to the legislation of a number of countries can be used as a basis for a crime.

You have the right to require the provision of the opportunity to contact the university staff, the nearest diplomatic mission or consular office or to send them a written notice of the fact of the incident.

Consular offices in Ukraine may provide the assistance in establishing contacts with relatives or friends of the detainee, monitoring compliance with legal procedures, including in terms of compliance with their local laws and international law, searching for lawyers, clarifying all the circumstances of the case.
